Needs From: Volunteer Greater Nashua

United Way of Greater Nashua holds regular drives for menstrual supplies and other personal care items at Hannaford in Hudson, 77 Derry Rd, on the 2nd Sunday of each month. The hours are 10am to 1pm between April and the end of December. The hours are 12pm to 3pm between January 1 and March 31.

Up to 8 volunteers are needed for each drive date. One volunteer will pick up supplies before the drive from bins behind the United Way office at 20 Broad Street, Nashua. Volunteers will be offering flyers to interested shoppers and encouraging them to purchase extra items to donate. At the end of each drive, volunteers will bring the supplies and donations back to the United Way office.

Donations collected at these drives will be used to supply "Rosie's Pantry", United Way of Greater Nashua's free women's hygiene cabinet hosted by Girls Inc. in Nashua.  These donations will also supply period  pantries at 23 other local nonprofits. Donations to Rosie's Pantry may also be made through our wish list HERE.

United Way of Greater Nashua hosts food drives every Saturday from 10am to 1pm through the end of December. Food drives between January 1 and March 31 will run from 12pm and 3pm.

Volunteers distribute flyers to interested shoppers, listing needed items in the hope that they will purchase additional products to donate. The collected items are then donated to a different local food pantry after each drive. Volunteers will set up at one or two store entrances depending on how many people register to help on a particular day. You can choose to only volunteer on one weekend or on many.

One volunteer at each drive will be responsible for picking up supplies from the United Way office at 20 Broad Street in Nashua on the Friday preceding their food drive and returning them after the drive along with the food collected.

Volunteer Role:
Safety & Ropes Team Member
Help manage the ropes and assist professional rappelling staff as participants rappel down a 24-story building! No prior experience necessary — full training is provided.

Mandatory Training:

Volunteers are needed to help sort donations to our Community Baby Shower from 10am to 1pm or 1pm to 4pm on Mondays April 13 and 20 and to set up donations on Tuesday, April 21st from 10am to 1pm or 1pm to 4pm. 

We are seeking a few dedicated volunteers to assist with sorting holiday cards that will be sent to members of the military serving overseas. These cards are thoughtfully created by school children as part of a program run by the local organization, Holiday Cards 4 Our Military Challenge.

While many cards are sent during the holiday season, the organization receives cards throughout the year. With this new batch, volunteers will be helping prepare cards for next year’s mailing, as these were received after the deadline for this year’s holiday shipments.

In addition to counting the cards, volunteers will help carefully review each one to ensure the messages and artwork are appropriate and respectful for sending abroad. This important step helps us bring cheer year-round while honoring the service and sacrifice of our troops.

United Way of Greater Nashua’s annual Community Baby Shower is just around the corner, and we need volunteers like you to help make it a success!

This special event supports new families with education on infant and child care, a “Baby Boutique” filled with essential items, and a day to celebrate our community’s newest members. Volunteers will help guide families through various stations, assist with selecting items from the Baby Boutique, and ensure everything runs smoothly throughout the day.

United Way of Greater Nashua's Community-Wide Food Drive: May 30 and 31

We need your help! United Way of Greater Nashua volunteers will be at grocery and convenience stores across the Greater Nashua area, asking customers to consider purchasing extra food and supplies to donate to our Community-Wide Food Drive.

Time: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Location: Participating grocery and convenience stores throughout the area

All donations will be distributed to food pantries and soup kitchens serving the towns of Amherst, Brookline, Hollis, Hudson, Litchfield, Lyndeborough, Merrimack, Milford, Mont Vernon, Nashua, and Wilton.

Volunteer Information: We’re seeking 50 volunteers per day to help with this effort! Volunteers will be stationed at 15 stores on Saturday and 11 stores on Sunday. Whether you’re an individual or part of a team, we welcome your participation. Teams from companies, clubs, faith communities, and families are especially encouraged to join.

Children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

Help a child succeed in school! Learn United is seeking caring volunteers to support students in grades K–12 with math, reading, science, or general homework help.

Volunteer as a Tutor
Work one-on-one (or in small groups, if you choose) with students who need extra support—whether for a few sessions or the full school year. You choose the age group, subject, and schedule that works for you. Teaching experience is helpful, but certification is not required.

Volunteer as a Session Monitor
Monitors provide a second adult presence to ensure a safe, supportive environment during tutoring sessions. This is a great option if you enjoy being around kids but prefer a lighter role—you can read, work quietly, or do crafts during sessions.

Tutoring typically takes place after school and may be in-person or virtual, with some opportunities during school hours or weekends. In-person sites include community partners such as the Boys & Girls Club, YMCA, Nashua PAL, Girls Inc., Nashua Public Library, Salvation Army, and United Way of Greater Nashua.

All volunteers complete an annual background check.

We're looking for volunteers who like horses, and barns, and helping! Each year, United Way volunteers go to Lyndeborough, NH (just past Wilton) to help our nonprofit partner Touchstone Farm get their outdoor area ready for summer! 

You'll help with the paddocks, getting the gardens ready, and other outdoor yard maintenance. 

Bring your gloves and some garden shears if you have them. 

Touchstone Farm is a therapeutic riding farm that works with people with disabilities and veterans.

Become an On-Call Digital Navigator!

We’re looking for volunteers who are comfortable with everyday technology and want to help community members build confidence with their devices. As an on-call Digital Navigator, you’ll meet clients in public locations (such as libraries or community centers) to answer common tech questions—like how to recover a password, transfer photos, or navigate apps.

Here’s how it works:

You’ll know the possible locations in advance and choose the ones convenient for you.

A volunteer scheduler will set appointments and connect you with clients—you’ll get a few days’ notice before any sessions.

We’ll provide training to prepare you for working one-on-one with clients.

Most questions are simple and focused on everyday tech use.

Since the onset of the pandemic, our volunteers have been delivering essential groceries from local food pantries, completing nearly 40 deliveries per month.

United Way of Greater Nashua occasionally needs volunteers to fill in for our projects between the hours of 10am and 4pm on weekdays. We need help with projects like our Pop-Up Pantries on weekdays, delivering groceries to homebound people, and helping with various other projects as they come up. United Way of Greater Nashua is looking for a volunteer skilled in graphic design to help with projects like flyer and sign production and design of t-shirts and other collateral. This individual will be part of United Way of Greater Nashua's Marketing Committee and are invited to attend monthly Marketing Committee meetings.  

United Way of Greater Nashua has placed donation boxes on the counters of stores around the community to collect their customers' spare change. We're looking for volunteers to check on these boxes and to find new stores who would be interested in participating in the program.

We would particularly like some volunteers to be Spanish speakers to work with stores in the Spanish speaking areas of Nashua.

Volunteers will check on their assigned boxes monthly or every few weeks depending on the busy-ness of the store. They will change the box for an empty one and bring the full box to the United Way office.
