We are blessed for Crossway's interest in outreach and the possibility of transforming a new growing space for our Mother's Garden serving our downtown community! Mother's join this garden from the neighboring Bronstein apartments, PAL, Marguerite's Place, and many others from the surrounding streets. We are teaching them how to grow food, giving them all the resources to grow, and aligning them with cooking courses on how to cook the food they just grew! It is a wonderful circle of activities and creates some really strong community friendships at the same time.
Days 1-2 we will be doing some brush and small tree removal, so anyone with chainsaw skills would be welcomed. We'll also be leveling out the area a bit and really setting up the foundation for the building days.
Day 3-4 we will be doing some woodworking and constructing of raised beds as well as a play area for children. You don't have to have any skills here, as extra sets of hands are important in this process as well as a few skilled. We'll have all the tools necessary and instructions of what to do.
Extra days - we will see what time allows for finishing up any raised bed construction, as well as beginning to fill the beds with soil and organic compost.
