Needs From: Volunteer Greater Nashua

United Way of Greater Nashua hosts food drives every Saturday from 10am to 1pm through the end of December. Food drives between January 1 and April 15 will run from 12pm and 3pm.

Volunteers distribute flyers to interested shoppers, listing needed items in the hope that they will purchase additional products to donate. The collected items are then donated to a different local food pantry after each drive. Volunteers will set up at one or two store entrances depending on how many people register to help on a particular day. You can choose to only volunteer on one weekend or on many.

One volunteer at each drive will be responsible for picking up supplies from the United Way office at 20 Broad Street in Nashua on the Friday preceding their food drive and returning them after the drive along with the food collected.

Become an On-Call Digital Navigator!

We’re looking for volunteers who are comfortable with everyday technology and want to help community members build confidence with their devices. As an on-call Digital Navigator, you’ll meet clients in public locations (such as libraries or community centers) to answer common tech questions—like how to recover a password, transfer photos, or navigate apps.

Here’s how it works:

You’ll know the possible locations in advance and choose the ones convenient for you.

A volunteer scheduler will set appointments and connect you with clients—you’ll get a few days’ notice before any sessions.

We’ll provide training to prepare you for working one-on-one with clients.

Most questions are simple and focused on everyday tech use.

United Way of Greater Nashua is seeking compassionate volunteers to support the City of Nashua's Winter Warming Station at the former Elm Street Middle School, providing a safe, warm place for individuals experiencing homelessness during the cold months.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

We’re excited for our upcoming Pickleball Tournament at Wasserman Park in Merrimack on Friday, October 17th! To make the day a success, we need volunteers to help with setup, food, raffles, and more. If you’re available, we’d love to have your support.

Here are the opportunities:

Setup Crew | 7:00 – 8:00 AM
Help set up tents, tables, and chairs before the event kicks off.

Raffle Table | 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
We need 2 volunteers to staff the raffle table for the duration of the event.

Food & Refreshments Table | 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
We need 2 volunteers to help with coffee, water, and morning snacks, as well as serving lunch around 11 AM.

Coffee Prep Volunteer (before the event) Ideally, this would be one of the Setup, Raffle, or Food volunteers for the first shift.
We’d love one volunteer to brew coffee early that morning using our Mr. Coffee machines and carafes, then bring it to Wasserman Park for setup. We’ll provide the coffee, filters, cups, and all supplies.

Take Down Crew | Afternoon
Help us break down tents, tables, and chairs once the tournament wraps up.

Your help will keep the tournament running smoothly and ensure our players and guests have a great experience.

Volunteers are invited to help United Way of Greater Nashua and Hillsborough County Gleaners pick food left in farm fields after the initial harvest. Pantries receiving food will include Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter, SHARE Outreach in Milford, and St. Joseph Hospital Employee Food Pantry, among others. 

The event will take place on October 27th at Kimball Fruit Farm in Pepperell, MA (just over the border from Hollis). Families are welcome to participate. Contact United Way at info@unitedwaynashua.org or (603)882-4011 for more information. 

United Way of Greater Nashua holds regular drives for women's hygiene products at Hannaford in Hudson, 77 Derry Rd, on the 2nd Sunday of each month. The hours are 10am to 1pm between April and the end of December. The hours are 12pm to 3pm between January 1 and April 15.

Up to 8 volunteers are needed for each drive date. One volunteer will pick up supplies before the drive from bins behind the United Way office at 20 Broad Street, Nashua. Volunteers will be offering flyers to interested shoppers and encouraging them to purchase extra items to donate. At the end of each drive, volunteers will bring the supplies and donations back to the United Way office.

Donations collected at these drives will be used to supply "Rosie's Pantry", United Way of Greater Nashua's free women's hygiene cabinet hosted by Girls Inc. in Nashua.  These donations will also supply women's hygiene cabinets in nurse's offices at some of Nashua's public middle and high schools. Volunteer Drivers Needed to Pick Up Food from NH Food Bank – Weekdays

Help us fight hunger in Greater Nashua by becoming a volunteer driver! We’re seeking dedicated volunteers to pick up food donations from the NH Food Bank in Manchester and transport them back to Nashua to stock our Pop Up Pantries.

Schedule: One volunteer needed per weekday (Mon–Fri); you will be assigned the same day each week.

Pick-Up Location: NH Food Bank, Manchester, NH

Drop-Off Location: Greater Nashua area

Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

Access to a large, enclosed vehicle (such as a van or SUV)

Dependability and good communication skills

We are also seeking “on call” volunteers to step in when regular drivers are unavailable.

This is a crucial role that ensures our Pop Up Pantries are stocked with fresh food and ready to serve those who need it most. Your time behind the wheel will help fill empty cupboards across our community.

"Learn United" Volunteer Tutors or Monitors

Description

Volunteer tutors and monitors are needed to work with children in grades K - 12 in math, literacy, or science.

This program offers free tutoring services to children in the community who need tutoring in a particular subject or general assistance with schoolwork. Volunteers for this program work with students who need one-on-one help on a particular topic for a short period of time - or for the entire school year. With education being one of United Way’s main areas of focus, Learn United Tutoring serves to fulfill the mission of supporting and promoting education.

Volunteering will take place primarily during after school hours and may be virtual or in-person depending on the needs of the student. Volunteering does happen during school hours and on weekends in some instances. In-person tutoring locations include the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Nashua, the YMCA of Greater Nashua, Nashua PAL, Girls Inc, the Nashua Public Library, the Salvation Army of Nashua, and United Way of Greater Nashua.

Volunteers will be expected to pass a background check, annually, that does require your social security number. The first step in our background check process can be found HERE. Please print and fill out this form. The form should be notarized prior to dropping it off or sending it to United Way of Greater Nashua, 20 Broad Street, Nashua, NH 03064. If you cannot easily print the form and/or you would like to have it notarized at the United Way office instead, that is an option.

Digital Navigators offer digital literacy training and support, helping individuals understand and use technology such as smartphones, computers, and the internet. They also address continuous tech support needs such as dealing with broken devices, spyware, lost passwords, and operating system updates.

Digital navigators assist with connectivity issues, aiding individuals in accessing affordable internet services and figuring out how connect their devices to the internet.

They provide individualized support tailored to the person's needs, from setting up devices to applying for jobs or services online. The role of Digital Navigators is teaching and empowering others.

Volunteers for this project will be assigned to a location within Greater Nashua (based on their preference) to be available for one-on-one assistance at a set time.

Since the onset of the pandemic, our volunteers have been delivering essential groceries from local food pantries, completing nearly 40 deliveries per month.

Delivery: Safely transport groceries to the homes of individuals who are unable to leave due to various circumstances.

United Way of Greater Nashua is looking for volunteers with experience in the field of marketing to help with writing projects, graphic design, and web design and maintenance. 

United Way of Greater Nashua is looking for a volunteer skilled in graphic design to help with projects like flyer and sign production and design of t-shirts and other collateral. This individual will be part of United Way of Greater Nashua's Marketing Committee and are invited to attend monthly Marketing Committee meetings.  

United Way of Greater Nashua is looking for volunteers to join their Events Committee. Events Committee volunteers are invited to help plan and execute events on a one-off basis or to help with all of United Way of Greater Nashua's 12+ events. Tasks include planning a timeline, directing other volunteers on the event day, helping collect and organize materials, doing outreach to local businesses to inform them about the event and to ask for participation, helping put up flyers and signs, and a wide variety of other tasks. 

United Way of Greater Nashua has placed donation boxes on the counters of stores around the community to collect their customers' spare change. We're looking for volunteers to check on these boxes and to find new stores who would be interested in participating in the program.

We would particularly like some volunteers to be Spanish speakers to work with stores in the Spanish speaking areas of Nashua.

Volunteers will check on their assigned boxes monthly or every few weeks depending on the busy-ness of the store. They will change the box for an empty one and bring the full box to the United Way office.
