Volunteer: Lil' Veggie Courier DriverThis is an ideal role for someone who loves to drive and wants to make a difference in food access in the city of Nashua. As a Lil' veggie courier driver, you will be collecting donations from donation stations across the city. There are about 10 stations, and the route takes ~ 1 hour to complete. These donations will be gathered and then driven to the "collection hub" for sorting in Nashua. This route is to be completed by 11:30 am. Volunteer: Food Drive ChampionOrganization: Grow Nashua – Lil’ Free Farmstand Program As a food drive champion, you will be planning and hosting a food drive at your place of work, school, church, or organization. The food collected goes straight to the Lil’ Free Farmstand and into the hands of local families in Nashua. Grow Nashua will provide you with marketing tools and also pick up the food from the drive. All you have to do is organize a date and time within the desired location to hold the food drive. We’re looking for someone who is organized, motivated, and excited to make a difference. You don’t need prior experience, just a desire to help your community! Volunteer: Seasonal - Person with a pickup and a dump stickerGrow Nashua provides community gardens throughout the city for low income families to grow fresh produce and connect with their neighbors. We currently support 7 different garden sites and 160+ plots. To keep the gardens welcoming and fun to be at we do our best to keep them looking good. Occasionally someone will leave a piece of trash too large for us to dispose of in a city trash bin (like a tire or large board) and we need to bring the item to the dump.
Responsibilities: Visiting a garden and picking up a piece of trash. Disposing at the landfill.
Benefit: Having a garden that is tidy creates a welcoming, relaxing, beautiful place to spend time, which translates to positive mental health.
Skills & Supplies needed: Driving to the community garden. Having a vehicle with a dump sticker. Working independently.
Duration: Usually less than an hour round trip to the landfill.
Time Frame: We'll let you know when there is something to pickup. You can go whenever you like any day of the week at any hour to take care of the trash. We support about 160 garden plots spread over all these sites. Often times things break at the site or we need to replace hoses, patch fencing, or replace a board on a raised bed. If you are handy with fixing miscellaneous things, we'd love a hand on occasion. Responsibilities: Working with wood. Working with garden irrigation things like hoses, spigots, and sprayers. Benefit: Your help will create a welcoming environment for the families that garden with us and rely on the space for access to nutritious fresh fruits and veggies. Skills: Working with miscellaneous hand tools. Working independently and figuring out solutions that will solve an issue. Duration: Usually 1-2 hrs each time a need arises.
