Who We Are

Letters Against Isolation was founded in 2020 by teenage sisters, Shreya and Saffron, who began writing letters to seniors during the COVID-19 lockdowns. What started as a small act of kindness quickly grew into a global movement.

Today, LAI is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit connecting tens of thousands of seniors with caring letter-writers across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Australia. Our mission is simple: send real letters that help seniors feel more connected to the world around them. We believe in the power of small, kind gestures to brighten someone’s day and remind them they’re not alone.

What We Do

We organize volunteers of all ages to send personal, uplifting letters to seniors in care homes and community programs. Since 2020, our community has mailed more than 1 million letters in over 40 languages—helping isolated seniors feel remembered, valued, and connected.
