HSFN is a thriving animal shelter serving the 16 communities of Greater Nashua, consisting of over 216,000 people and their pets.
HSFN offers a wide range of services:
Adoptions: Dogs, cats, kittens, puppies, and small animals like rabbits, guinea pigs, and reptiles.
Animal Surrender: Accepts stray or owned pets when families can no longer provide care due to personal or financial hardship. Stray pets found in local neighborhood or owned pets when a family can no longer care for the pet due to loss of jobs, income, home, illness or death of the pet’s owner.
Low‑Cost Veterinary Care: Includes vaccinations, dental cleanings, flea/tick prevention, spay/neuter services, prevention, and more.
Dog Transport Program: HSFN collaborates with shelters in regions like Arkansas, Texas, and Puerto Rico, bringing dogs to New England where adoption opportunities are greater.
End-of-Life Services: Offers cremation and burial services on-site, including plots at the Proctor Animal Cemetery.
Youth and Community Education: Programs like HERO (for children), “Reading to Rescues,” and school outreach promote responsible pet care and human–animal relationships.
Special Initiatives:
Seniors for Seniors – pairs senior pets with senior citizens, often with waived or reduced adoption fees.
Safety Net Program – offers financial assistance for veterinary care.
Pet Food Pantry – redistributes donations to those in need, local shelters, and Meals on Wheels.
