Who We Are

Marguerite's Place was founded in 1994 by Sister Sharon Walsh and Sister Elaine Fahey. They named their organization after St. Marguerite d'Youville, the foundress of the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart, who was known for her compassionate care of women and children. The Sisters' original mission remains strong and continues to guide us: Marguerite's Place supports women and children experiencing homelessness in their quest for self-sufficiency by providing transitional hosing, childcare, and a continuum of supportive services to help families thrive.

What We Do

Marguerite’s Place is unique in the New Hampshire service landscape. We provide transitional housing, licensed childcare, and supportive services within one organization; to our knowledge, there are no other programs in the state that provide this combination of services through one organization. We provide our clients with a fully furnished apartment, on-site childcare, 24/7 security, one-on-one case management support, and weekly supportive community programming. This unique combination of services helps us guide our families to self-sufficiency.

Our approach ends cyclical homelessness and poverty, and interrupts the impact of trauma on future generations, and provides a lasting solution to familial instability. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, in the last three years we have housed 46 women and 71 children, and have seen 58 children thrive in our childcare program. In this timeframe, 72% of families enrolled in our housing programs have successfully graduated onto long-term permanent housing and self-sufficiency.
